On July 29th, Almaaz
joined internationally celebrated artist Fassih Keiso in his unique exhibit
"I want to see belly dancers, don't you?" at the P.S. 1 Contemporary Art
Center in Queens, NY.
Syrian-born Fassih
Keiso currently lives in Australia. His work has been exhibited in Beirut,
Tunisia, Damascus, Melbourne, Sydney, and Adelaide and has traveled to
Pakistan, the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore. Keiso works with fragments
of the human body, breaking it up, removing it from normal contexts and
scale and reconstructing it. By creating an "arabesque" out of it, its
power is symbolically increased. It can be full of sexual possibility,
or the art can "absorb" the nudity and actually take away the excitement
and desire.
